Top 10 Rhum Agricole Distilleries
Rhum agricole is rum distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice (rather than molasses, the byproduct of sugar production). The style is overwhelmingly associated with the French Caribbean — Martinique (where it carries a strict AOC), Guadeloupe, Haiti (as clairin), Mauritius, and Madeira (where the rum is called rum agrícola). Compared to molasses rum, agricole tends to be greener, grassier, more vegetal, more terroir-driven.
1. Rhum Clément (Martinique)
Rhum Clément at Habitation Clément in François, Martinique, is one of the great heritage estates. The 18th-century plantation house is open to visitors as a museum. The Single Cask, XO, and 10 Year Old expressions are flagship AOC Martinique rhum agricoles.
2. Rhum J.M (Martinique)
Rhum J.M at the foot of Mont Pelée in northern Martinique uses spring water from the volcano in production. The blanc agricole 50°, V.O, V.S.O.P, and X.O define the elegant, fruit-forward house style.
3. Rhum Neisson (Martinique)
Neisson is the smallest of Martinique's AOC distilleries and one of only two still family-owned. The 70cl Reserve Spéciale and the Esprit Neisson cuvées are connoisseur references; the Le Rhum Par Neisson (high-proof blanc) is a benchmark.
4. Rhum Trois Rivières (Martinique)
Trois Rivières on Martinique's southern coast is one of the older AOC operations. The Cuvée de l'Océan (single-parcel from coastal cane fields) and the Triple Millésime define the premium range.
5. La Favorite (Martinique)
La Favorite, near Fort-de-France, still uses steam from a historic Corliss steam engine to power production — a technical museum piece that remains in active use. The Cœur de Canne and Privilège are flagship expressions.
6. Rhum Damoiseau (Guadeloupe)
Damoiseau in Le Moule, Grande-Terre, is the largest distillery in Guadeloupe. Not AOC (only Martinique has rhum agricole AOC), but produces the same fresh-juice style. The VSOP and Cuvée du Millénaire are core.
7. Rhum Bielle (Marie-Galante)
Rhum Bielle on the small island of Marie-Galante (administratively part of Guadeloupe) is one of the famous "Rhum de Marie-Galante" producers. The 59% blanc and Premium 5 ans are emblematic.
8. Domaine de Séverin (Guadeloupe)
Séverin in Sainte-Rose, Basse-Terre, is one of the oldest active distilleries in Guadeloupe (founded 1928). The Rhum Vieux Hors d'Âge is the premium expression.
9. Rhum Barbancourt (Haiti)
Barbancourt in Port-au-Prince has produced agricole-style rum since 1862, predating the term itself. The 5 Star (8 year) and 15 year Réserve du Domaine are the global benchmarks for affordable aged agricole. (Distinct from "clairin" — the unaged Haitian style.)
10. Distillerie Reimonenq (Guadeloupe)
Reimonenq at Sainte-Rose has an excellent rum museum (Musée du Rhum) attached to the distillery, with antique stills, machinery, and tropical butterfly collection. The Cœur de Chauffe and traditional vieux expressions cover the range.

Martinique's AOC distilleries — there are ten — cluster in particular regions: the southern Atlantic coast (Trois Rivières, Saint-James), the centre (La Favorite, Clément), and the volcanic north (J.M, Depaz).
